Massimo Giorgetti stands behind the “creative force” of the Italian fashion label MSGM. And MSGM’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection is a contemplative challenge on the relentless pace of modern life. Massimo Giorgetti chose the Porta Venezia subway station with its vibrant red line as the runway for the MSGM show at Milan Fashion Week.

This is a highly realistic metaphor as the Porta Venezia Red line is the lifeblood of the fashion capital Milan, coupled with the red tone symbolizing the urgency of modern life. Combined with Massimo Giorgetti’s fashion creations, it is a powerful commentary on the haste of modern life in the literal sense.

Another intriguing aspect of this collection is the collaboration with the Franco Albini Foundation (designer of the first M1 subway line inaugurated in 1960) to celebrate the subway’s 60th anniversary. The tube-shaped handrails and distinctive patterns of the subway appear in the collection as brooches and decorations on jackets, creating a rich narrative between technological heritage and contemporary fashion.

For prints, Massimo Giorgetti invited Portuguese photographer Tiago Alexandre, passionate about the theme of speed, to create illustrations of motorcycle helmets, emphasizing “the protective elements for humans under the threats of speed.” These cautionary prints became the focal point on floral-patterned knit sweaters and button-up shirts, serving as reflections on whether “our lives really need to move so fast to face imminent dangers.”

Giorgetti introduced aesthetic materials like sequins, feathers, and glitter to embellish hoodies, shorts, and coats. Denim designs also sparkled with colorful rhinestones, creating a dazzling finale for the collection.

Beyond visual appeal, Giorgetti’s contemplation on speed delves into philosophical questions. Is constant development an inherent part of maturity, or is it merely a race against time that never stops or slows down? The sparkling designs that conclude Giorgetti’s show might be a nostalgic reminder of childhood memories, where innocence shields individuals from the rush and competition of modern life. And the runway on the Milan M1 subway line serves as a bridge, connecting the eternal essence of creative art to the fast-paced, ever-changing world of today.
