Prada’s latest collection for Fall/Winter 2024, showcased at Milan Fashion Week, goes beyond mere fashion, evolving into an artistic masterpiece that captures the purest essence of nature.
Under the creative minds of Miuccia Prada and collaborative creative director Raf Simons, the runway presentation of Prada’s latest men’s fashion for this Fall/Winter draws inspiration from the untouchable nature’s essence. The entire autumn scene is authentically and multidimensionally recreated on the runway, not through CGI or 3D graphics but with real materials such as streams, falling golden leaves, and stones, presented in the most refined and vibrant manner. Executed by OMA, an international collaborative organization in urban architectural practice and cultural analysis, with AMO as a research and design studio operating in areas beyond architecture but with impact on architecture, politics, technology, and fashion. AMO is also renowned for previous Prada collections featuring runway designs immersed in “Slime.”
The contrast begins as models step out in modern workwear-inspired outfits, accompanied by oversized worker jackets with Raf Simons’ distinctive touch, while guests sit on office swivel chairs, creating a blended setting between manual and intellectual labor in a natural and perfect harmony. All harmoniously comes together to authentically depict the true nature of contemporary human thinking, always chasing dazzling competitions but dreaming of the mystical wonders of nature.
The designs stand out with Raf Simons’ bold colors of royal purple, avocado green, hot pink, yellow, and red, complementing the darker tones of black, gray, and deep green to add a youthful touch. The inspiration for this collection comes from activities deeply intertwined with human nature, such as swimming, diving, and fishing. Swim caps, sailor hats, and swimming goggles become inspirations for Prada’s designs this time.
This Prada collection also illustrates that the incessant changes in fashion trends mirror the cyclical transformations in nature. People wearing work attire to the office mirror nature donning its autumnal cloak. So why should we keep repeating mundane things instead of creating breakthroughs, as Prada has done with this season’s Workwear concept? It disrupts preconceptions about generic office wear, giving a stronger voice to the idea of personal style.
