In a notable change from its theatrical counterpart, the at-home versions of the film ‘Mean Girls’ released last week seem to have omitted a joke that Lindsay Lohan took issue with.
The movie, which transitioned from Tina Fey’s iconic 2004 film to a Broadway musical before returning to the screen this year, hit digital platforms recently following its theatrical premiere in January.
Upon its release, the film generated significant buzz at the box office, featuring a cameo by Megan Thee Stallion delivering a line to Cady Heron (played by Angourie Rice) that originally referenced Lohan as having a “Y2K fire crotch.”
This phrase harked back to a 2006 TMZ video in which oil heir Brandon Davis made derogatory remarks about Lohan, including referring to her with the offensive term.
However, in some versions of the film’s digital release, including one rented from Amazon, this controversial joke is conspicuously absent. Instead, Stallion’s line has been modified to, “Hot girls, we are going back red.”
Following the initial uproar over the joke, Lohan expressed her disappointment and hurt through her publicist Leslie Sloane in a statement shared with various media outlets in January.
The new iteration of ‘Mean Girls’ boasts a fresh cast including Reneé Rapp, Auliʻi Cravalho, Jaquel Spivey, Avantika, Bebe Wood, Christopher Briney, Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, and Jon Hamm. Lohan herself makes a cameo appearance, while Fey and Tim Meadows reprise their roles from the original film.
