Guinea Issues Plea for Responsible Celebrations After Tragic Incidents

In the aftermath of several fan fatalities following Guinea’s 1-0 victory over the Gambia on Friday, the Guinea Football Federation has appealed to supporters to exercise caution during celebrations. The tragic events have cast a shadow over the team’s upcoming clash with Senegal on Tuesday, where both sides, currently the top two in Group C, will face off.

Expressing deep sorrow, the Guinea Football Federation issued a statement on social media, urging fans to “celebrate carefully and take care of yourself.” Additionally, a video from the team emphasized the importance of responsible celebration. The plea comes as Guinea requires only a draw against already qualified Senegal to advance to the knockout stages.

Amadou Makadji, the federation’s media manager, emphasized the need for measured celebration, stating, “The goal of football is to bring joy and not leave families bereaved.” Guinea’s passionate football culture adds significance to the call for fans to avoid putting themselves in harm’s way during celebrations.

“We do not want deaths to mourn, so we call on everyone to celebrate but to take care of themselves so that nothing happens to them,” added Makadji.
